New York City Hostels

New York City doesn’t need much of an introduction. The most populous city in the United States (and the third in the world), the Big Apple is a cultural mecca. The New York City hostel is located on the Upper West Side, home to Broadway and center of the performing arts, along Amsterdam Avenue, known for its eclectic mix of boutiques, bars, and bodegas. The world-famous Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, which is the locale of the New York State Theater, New York City Ballet, New York City Opera, and Julliard School of Music (just to name a few) is located on the Upper West Side, as well as the renowned Tavern on the Green restaurant.

New York

New York’s architecture, ranging from breathtaking skyscrapers to brownstone rowhouses, is as diverse as its five boroughs – The Bronx, Brooklyn, Manhattan, Queens, and Staten Island. The Bronx is the only part of the city that is part of the U.S. mainland, home to the Bronx Zoo, Yankees Stadium, and the birthplace of hip hop and rap. The most populous borough, Brooklyn is known for its eclectic art, cultural and social diversity, and Coney Island, one of the earliest amusement parks in the U.S. New York’s skyscrapers reside in Manhattan, the major financial and business area of the city, as well as Broadway and Madison Square Garden. Manhattan is divided into Downtown, Midtown, and Uptown; the Upper East Side and Upper West Side, divided by Central Park, as well as Harlem, are within the Uptown district. Queens is geographically the most diverse county in the U.S. and home to Shea Stadium, the stadium of the New York Mets, as well as the site of both LaGuardia Airport and the John F. Kennedy Airport. Last, but not least, Staten Island is the most suburban of the boroughs and can be accessed via ferry or bridge.

New York City weather is typically humid, especially in the summer, when temperatures can easily reach the 90 degree-mark. Spring and fall weather is erratic, ranging from hot to snowy. Receiving just 25 to 35 inches of snow, New York City’s winters have average temperatures in the 30s and 40s.
